Dazzle Invites | Nick Hubbard
For nearly forty years, this family-run business has been making jewellery known for its craftsmanship and storytelling. Citing influences from comic art, literature, music and nature, Nick's work has become widely known and loved for its fine figurative detail, hand engraving and mechanised parts.
After graduating from Birmingham School of Jewellery in 1978, husband and wife team, Nick (the Brick) and Jean (the Bean) established their business from a small workshop in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter. Nick's jewellery has since become highly collectible and can be easily identified as the original article by a small engraving of a 'brick and bean' on each piece.
Since losing Nick in 2013, the ‘Brick and Bean’ team has been dedicated to preserving and continuing his sparkling creative legacy. After leaving a career in publishing and historical research, Nick’s daughter Philippa now manages Nick Hubbard Jewellery with mum, Jean. The team continue to lovingly design and hand-make jewellery using traditional methods. Working with Nick’s drawings, designs and processes ensures that every piece is imbued with his distinctive style and skill that has set the standard for finely crafted, playful contemporary jewellery.
The Brick & Bean team have created an exclusive range of jewellery as part of the second edition of our virtual Dazzle exhibition – Dazzle Invites.
Dazzle invites 30 contemporary jewellers, showing unique, one-off or limited edition designs, created specially for the exhibition. All pieces are available to purchase from 16 November 2021 – 9 January 2022.
