Dazzle Invites | Elizabeth Campbell
Elizabeth Jane Campbell graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2013, and then spent a year as Artist in Residence at Glasgow School of Art before establishing her own studio in Edinburgh. As well as developing her own work which has been exhibited across the UK and abroad, Elizabeth has been part of several collaborative projects showing her skills beyond enamelling. Elizabeth’s work can be seen in permanent collections across the UK, such as The National Museum of Scotland and The Goldsmiths’ Collection, London.
Elizabeth’s love of enamelling began while studying in Canada at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where she learnt traditional enamelling skills. Her passion now is to use those traditional skills in new and unexpected ways to create contemporary and unique vitreous enamel work – showing a different and more modern approach to this wonderful and ancient technique.
“My recent work explores the connection between colour and shape - taking inspiration from colour theory, colour connotations and visual literacy. Using vitreous enamel enables me to achieve fantastic colours which I contrast with simple oxidised silver settings. The surface finish of the enamel is really important, as a gloss or matt finish can really change the quality of the enamel colour. Each piece is hand finished to highlight the vibrancy of the colour.
Enamel is fundamental in my work, and I am most excited when experimenting with the material relationship of metal and glass to create new and unique designs. I am passionate about the use of traditional enamelling skills, such as cloisonné, and I love to include this in my work, while always ensuring to put my own personal stamp on the technique.”
Elizabeth Campbell is showing an exclusive range of jewellery as part of the second edition of our virtual Dazzle exhibition – Dazzle Invites.
Dazzle invites 30 contemporary jewellers, showing unique, one-off or limited edition designs, created specially for the exhibition. All pieces are available to purchase from 16 November 2021 – 9 January 2022.
