Dazzle 40 | Fiona Maguire
Fiona Maguire graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in 1988 and is based in Crieff, Scotland (born Mombassa). Fiona press forms silver to create simple shapes which are then enamelled and fused with gold foil bringing colour and texture to each individual piece. Over the past few years, she has been developing past ideas and experimenting with new ones. Having been involved in running a gallery for over 19 years she had no time to be a maker, which meant that there were many ideas stored up in her head. So she wanted to pare things back and keep it looking simple... but technically, using enamels...quite challenging. Fiona fuses gold foil on to the enamel, sometimes with the colour showing through, almost like an old relic but with a modern contemporary twist. It can take some time between the concept and the final piece and as most of the pieces in this collection are individual (while some could be repeated, no two pieces would ever be the same).
Fiona Maguire first showed at Dazzle in 1990.
