Dazzle Invites | Amanda Denison

Amanda Denison makes one-off pieces of art jewellery inspired by the environment in West London where she lives and works. Her studio sits in a special spot where the concrete jungle meets verdant fields and the ever-changing Thames path. In recent years the minutiae of everyday life have held greater significance; everything transforms and changes and beauty can be found in the most unlikely places.  Amanda is intrigued by decay and dilapidation and by the fading marks stamped on the urban landscape. She originally trained as a Fine Artist and this informs her approach; mark-making and texture are key elements in her work.

Amanda works with industrial materials (steel and liquid enamel) and recycled silver and gold. Enamels and patinas add colour but her palette is always restrained. Amanda distress and deconstructs her surfaces and allows some pieces to rust. This adds an extra dimension and richness. Surfaces are waxed to preserve them. Many of Amanda’s pieces look aged as though they’ve laid buried for years before being dug up and discovered. The pieces are idiosyncratic and distinctive but always wearable.
