Dazzle Invites | Dominika Kupcova
Dominika Kupcova is a jewellery designer and maker based in Glasgow, Scotland, who aims to create complex, eye-catching structures with an element of optical illusion, carefully constructed using repeated layers of linear pattern. The work is informed by the aesthetic properties of the DNA double helix, inspiration generated through an interest in science and genetics since childhood. A fascination with the intricacies of human genetic make-up, uniformly structured yet individual, is echoed in the unique hand crafted jewellery objects.
Dominika’s work is created using a combination of hand and manufacturing processes – traditional skills of metal work alongside modern techniques of laser cutting and spray painting. The resultant body of work, titled the LINES Collection, pursues to seamlessly combine precious metals, predominantly sterling silver, with non-precious materials of card and spray paint, which are manipulated and transformed through a variety of processes into a material which is sturdy, durable and waterproof. Dominika’s Silver Collection is a sculptural exploration of metal wire to create beautiful original pieces entirely out of precious materials. The two collections are aesthetically intertwined and sit cohesively alongside each other, showcasing the variety in which precious and non-precious materials can be manipulated to create wearable works of art.
Dominika Kupcova is showing an exclusive range of jewellery as part of the virtual Dazzle exhibition – Dazzle Invites.
Dazzle invites 30 contemporary jewellers, showing unique, one-off or limited edition designs, created specially for the exhibition. All pieces are available to purchase from 17 November – 10 January.
