Dazzle Invites | Emily Thatcher
The abundance of diversity found in nature drives Emily Thatcher’s design process, infinitely varied as it is. Focusing on this natural world, especially at a cellular level, inspires the elegance of form found in her jewellery, with each piece finding its own voice within her distinctive style.
Using traditional hand-fabrication techniques and utilising colours of both stone and precious metal Emily draws the eye around the designs, exploring both negative and positive space. She selects unique gem material for each design, working to expose the honesty of the stone - the inclusions and fractures, responding to these innate characteristics rather than neglecting them.
Originally from Cambridge, Emily studied a BA Hons in Silversmithing, Jewellery & Allied Crafts at The Sir John Cass Department of Art & Design in London and now works from her studio in Sheffield exhibiting her work both nationally and internationally.
Emily Thatcher is showing an exclusive range of jewellery as part of the virtual Dazzle exhibition – Dazzle Invites
Dazzle invites 30 contemporary jewellers, showing unique, one-off or limited edition designs, created specially for the exhibition. All pieces are available to purchase from 17 November – 10 January.
