Dazzle Invites | Stephanie Johnson

In a studio overlooking the Fal Estuary in Cornwall, Stephanie Johnson makes a unique and distinctive range of handmade jewellery in silver and gold. Working intuitively and in response to exquisite textures and forms observed in nature, she aims to create sculptural yet eminently wearable art. Techniques more closely associated with paper folding and Origami have been adapted for use with sheet metal. Burnished edges catch the light as a piece is creased, folded and twisted creating a play between contrasting textures and planes to produce jewellery that effectively dances it’s way around the wearer.

The crisp white, frosty sparkle of silver and mother of pearl-like finishes have become her trade marks. A flash of pure gold or sprinkling of tiny metal fragments across a surface adds a magical touch to her designs.She enjoys experimenting with a variety of precious metals carefully selected for their specific properties, colour and durability. Her work uses Fairtrade Gold and Eco-silver in support of responsible mining.

Stephanie acknowledges a range of influences, from the innovative use of materials by Japanese textile artists to 20th Century abstract sculpture and works of the St Ives School.
